When I first met Michael a couple months ago, I knew that helping him to find his first home would be a lot of fun. He had a great sense of humor and an adventurous spirit. But what really made this process even more fun was that his two future roommates tagged along with us for much of the search.
Michael had a good idea of what he wanted in a home – condo or single-family home with about 3-4 bedrooms and preferably 2+ baths. We had to take into consideration the different commutes of the three roommates along with their individual preferences. After viewing about 25 homes in Southwest and North Portland, we still hadn’t found JUST the right one.
There were those that had only one bathroom – not ideal for three guys with similar work schedules. Some didn’t have an appropriate yard for entertaining. And others were just plain ugly. We saw some fixer-uppers and some new remodels. And we saw some very odd things (remember the speaker hanging from the balcony, Michael?).
Then, in a serendipitous moment, I got a call from a different homebuyer inquiring about a Garden Home townhome that had just hit the market. After talking to her about that home, she realized it wasn’t for her. But in the back of my mind, I was thinking, “This home is perfect for Michael!”
We went to see it the next day, and it was love at first sight. I think what really sold Michael and his roommates was the hot tub on the back deck. Lucky for me, the house is in my neighborhood. I might be paying these guys a visit sometime soon!
Enjoy your new Garden Home home, Michael, Jon & Jeff! I had a great time working with you all!
